Christy Gunther has been a professional counselor since 1981 and in private practice since 1987. She received her M.A. in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of South Florida in 1980. She holds licensure in the state of North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC 732) and a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS 75). She is also a National Certified Counselor (NCC 35007).
Ms. Gunther has a general practice in which she offers individual and couple counseling. She works primarily with adults and has a special interest in depression and bereavement. She also started a pet loss support group in 1994 as a community service, which she facilitated for 24 years. Her approach is client-centered and she utilizes a number of different therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive-Behavioral, Gestalt, Rogerian, and Reality Therapy, according to what is most effective with each individual client. She also provides alcohol/drug assessments for the court.

Directions from the south: Take 19/23N (future I-26W) to the UNCA exit 25. Turn left off the exit onto Broadway, which becomes Riverside Drive, and go one mile. Turn right onto Woodfin Avenue. Woodfin Wellness is the 2nd building on your right.
Directions from the north: Take 19/23S (future I-26E) to the Elk Mountain exit 24. Turn right off the exit, then left at the first street, which is Green Oak Road. Make an immediate left onto Woodfin Avenue and go about 1/2 mile. Woodfin Wellness is a two-story dark blue building on your left.
Christy Gunther provides a unique combination of traditional and non-traditional services through her private practice, Stellar Counseling Services. This is part of Woodfin Wellness, a Center for Healing and Personal Transformation. It is a group of holistic health care professionals, who offer psychotherapy, massage, physical therapy, and astrological counseling. They combine their collective experiences and actively collaborate to more effectively serve their clients and the greater community.
