Ms. Gunther was employed by the Pinellas Association for Retarded Children in St. Petersburg, Florida for 7 years as a Vocational Evaluator. She evaluated the vocational potential of mentally challenged adults through client interviews, vocational testing, and behavioral observation. She also provided vocational and personal adjustment counseling services.
After obtaining her M.A., she worked as a Mental Health Counselor at Family Service Centers in Clearwater, Florida for 6 years. Initially, she counseled single women who were experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. She facilitated single parent educational and support groups, supervised a staff of 4 counselors, and provided training for Intake Counselors. She then received further training in addictions and shifted into counseling couples and families, clients with substance abuse or codependency issues, and adult children of alcoholics.
In August 1987, she went into private practice in Largo, Florida, where she had a general practice for 6 years before relocating to North Carolina. She has had her practice, Stellar Counseling Services, in Asheville since October, 1993.
